Clinical Pharmacists in General Practice – next round of applications close 22 February
The Clinical Pharmacists in General Practice programme aimsto expand the number of pharmacists in general practice. In October 2018 NHS England changed the criteria for the programme to make it easier for sites to operate across a smaller population size, and allowing clinical pharmacists to work part-time.
What are the criteria changes?
- Reduction of the current population criteria from 1 WTE clinical pharmacist per 30,000 population, to 1 WTE per 15,000 population (or the proportion of WTE that can be applied to the population criteria e.g. 0.5 WTE for 7500 population).
- Permitting part-time clinical pharmacists of a minimum of 0.5 WTE.
GP practices and other providers of general practice medical services can submit applications through the clinical pharmacist portal.
Application deadlines are as follows:
- Wave 8 – closing date 22 February 2019
- Wave 9 – closing date 31 May 2019

EU Exit Operational Guidance – Primary Care
In line with the Government’s operational focus on national ‘no deal’ planning for the UK’s exit from the EU, actions must now be taken locally to manage the risks of a ‘no deal’ exit. To inform preparations, EU Exit Operational Readiness Guidancehas been developed and agreed with NHS England and Improvement.
This guidance sets out the local actions that providers and commissioners of health and adult social care services in England should take to prepare for EU Exit.
GPs are advised the read the guidance and take the appropriate action and to ensure that other organisations you work with are taking similar steps.
REMINDER - New GMS1 form
On 2 October 2017, NHS England introduced a new GMS1 form which includes the supplementary questions for patients not ordinarily resident in the UK. Please dispose of any previous versions of the form.
Practices can download and print the new form which is available here.
