New strategy for a measles and rubella free future

The new measles and rubella elimination strategy maps out how the UK can achieve a future that is free of measles, rubella and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).

It includes a number of recommendations to maintain measles and rubella elimination going forward which cover 4 main areas:

  1. Achieve and sustain over 95% coverage with 2 doses of MMR vaccine in the routine childhood immunisation programme.
  2. Achieve over 95% coverage with 2 doses of MMR vaccine in older age groups.
  3. Strengthen measles and rubella monitoring.
  4. Ensure easy access to high-quality, evidence-based information for health professionals and the public.

Dedicated NHS veterans’ Mental Health Services

The NHS provides dedicated mental health services for those who have served in the British Armed Forces – the Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS) and the Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS), both available across England.

Access to both of these services is through the TILS.  Individuals can contact the service direct or ask to be referred via a GP or military charity.

Further details are available on the NHS website and also in this recently updated leaflet

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT)

NWAFT have advised that women who have had three or more previous Caesarean sections will now be offered an early ultrasound scan in any subsequent pregnancy, at both Peterborough and Hinchingrooke Hospital. The scan will take place at 7-8 weeks and will help clinicians rule out a Caesarean section scar ectopic, which is thought to be the precursor to the morbidly adherent placental conditions.

Please be reminded that the number for the central triage, which takes calls for both hospital sites, is 01733 673758 and is available 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am-12nooon, weekends/bank holidays.
