England’s 6 million smokers are being encouraged to take part in the 28-day stop smoking challenge from Public Health England, which begins on 1 October 2018.
Quitting smoking is easier with the right support. The most successful attempts are made with a combination of methods, so this year Stoptober is providing a free online Personal Quit Plan, which helps smokers find the right support for them.
Dr Amrit Takhar, Cardiology Clinical Lead for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group said,
“There’s lots of support out there for anyone who’s thinking of quitting this Stoptober. If you’ve struggled to kick the habit alone, your local pharmacist can provide tips and advice on which prescription or over the counter medicines could help. If you’re looking for more interactive encouragement, you can sign up to one of the digital initiatives, like the Stoptober app, Facebook messenger bot, daily emails or online communities.
“People who get expert support are up to four times as likely to quit successfully as those who try to quit unaided. And if you can make the whole of Stoptober smokefree, then you’re five times more likely to stay smokefree for good. So get involved!”
